I’m 17 and I started my journey at just 15 years old in August 2019 after sending the station editor a terrible showreel. Trust me- I know it was- I listened back to it before writing this post. It would be incorrect if I said that the station hasn’t played a big part in my life over the past few years- in the words of my friend Ben Norris;
Radio has an amazing power to be so close to us in life- it’s with you for every up and down- every unexpected turn. It’s there to make you laugh and smile.
Ben Norris – KLFM 28th August 2020
The amazing community that we have has truly shone through during 2020- for example the numerous amount of people that have come onto the station for Community and Charity focus to the 24 hour fundraiser for the NHS hosted by Andy Snowden and the countless messages of support that have come in.
I won’t lie to you- writing this is hard to do. I’d never have imagined that the station would come to an end so soon in my journey- however all good things must come to and end and for the station it’s been 13 years of making memories. It was launched when I was just over 4 years old. My biggest regret is that I didn’t make more memories while I had the chance.
In the end that’s all it really comes to isn’t it- memories.
There are so many pictures that you’ll find of me either making an awkward pose or smile by that mixing desk.
As I said- I have loved every minute of it. I’ve met some wonderful people during my time presenting. People from the station editor Amy- who listened to me complain about something every single week for the past year and a half, Andy Snowden who has dome so many amazing things during lockdown like the NHS 24 hour marathon show and John Tudor who has been so supportive of me over the past couple of months.
There are so many people I want to thank but I think my hands might start aching from all of the typing I’d have to do.
If you’ve ever listened to one of my shows I’m eternally grateful- whether you’ve let me keep you company in the car, let me into your home or anything in-between.. thank you. It means the absolute world to me.
Don’t give up hope- there are still a group of people who want to save local radio for Wrexham. I’m sure when the time comes I will be involved. Local radio is needed now more than ever and with the recent attention Wrexham has had in the press it could be a brilliant opportunity to further show the talent we have in our local area. Bringing back Wrexham AFC commentary on the radio, being actively more involved in the community with local events and supporting local businesses is something that can be beneficial to our community.
Again- don’t give up hope.
Maybe we’ll meet again Wrexham.
